Mexican War Memorial Dedication Ceremony

On September 13, 1847, after two days of battle, the Marines gained control of Chapultepec Castle, better known as "Halls of Montezuma", and raised the American flag over the palace to mark their victory. The dedication occurred on the 170th anniversary of the Battle of Chapultepec. The Brazos Valley Marine Corps League served as the sponsor for the memorial.
The victory at the Halls of Montezuma remains a part of Marine Corps tradition, immortalized in the opening line of the Marine Corps Hymn. Members of the Brazos Valley Marine Corps League gather in front of the memorial.
General Michael Hagee, USMC (Retired) and 33rd Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, was the keynote speaker at the dedication. Gen. Hagee General Hagee receives a plaque commemorating his participation in the dedication ceremony from Lt. General Randolph House, USA (Retired), and president of the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial.
